Richard Estes is one of the world's foremost experts on the social ecology of African mammals. Daniel Otte is Curator and Chairman of the Department of Entomology at the Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia. E. O. Wilson is Frank B. Baird, Jr., Professor of Science and Curator in Entomology at Harvard University and co-author of The Ants (1990).

It is described as a 20th anniversary edition. It was acknowledged to be great then, but it is a shame that it does not reflect any of the research conducted since 1990.

The Behavior Guide to African Mammals

A top notch account of the behavior of African mammals. This text really covers it all. Estes was my animal behavior teacher at Harvard University and he gives invaluable information about the the ecological requirements and social ecology of this fascinating and varied group of mammals. You can use it in Africa as well as a quick reference guide while watching these animals in documentaries on TV. For anyone who is a student of animal behavior, this book should be in your personal library.
